With the stay-at-home order extended through May 15, most people are missing the valuable services of our Glam Room salon. Thankfully, there are some things you can do to keep up with your grooming and beauty routines at home so that you’re ready to pick up with your favorite salon services when the restrictions are lifted. If you need a little help from our Glam Room experts, look into our online virtual consultation services to ask about skincare products, skin type, and anything else you need to know.
Good skin care is essential, and even when you’re home all day, it’s important to have a routine to keep your skin healthy, clean, and hydrated. A good skincare routine doesn’t have to be complicated, but it is important that you use the right products for your skin. Gorgeous makeup starts with a great foundation – healthy, glowing skin! If you follow a few simple guidelines for your home skincare routine, you’ll get the beautiful skin you’ve always wanted.
Determine your skin type. Everyone has a unique skin type that will determine which formulas you use in your skincare routine. Oily skin is just that – skin that makes excess oil that leaves your skin feeling greasy as the day goes on. Oily skin can clog pores and cause breakouts, so you need oil-free formulas and special nutrients to keep things under control. Dry skin is feeling tight and looks flaky, especially if you don’t use the right moisturizer. Combination skin has both oily and dry areas, so it’s harder to keep things balanced. Finally, sensitive skin is prone to irritation, so it’s important to choose the right products without irritating ingredients. If you’re not sure about your skin type, cleanse your face, pat dry, and leave it without makeup. After about 30 minutes, you should start to notice if your skin is dry, oily, or combination skin. Combination skin will only have shine on your forehead and nose areas, while oily skin will have a shine all over. Dry skin will lack shine and feel tight.
Find the right products for you. The Glam Room estheticians recommend Dermalogica®, SkinCeuticals®, and Glo® skincare products that are formulated for your skin type. For best results, you’ll need a cleanser, toner, moisturizer, exfoliating product as well as special serums and treatments designed for your skin. Your Glam Room esthetician can help you select the best products for you.
Build a daily routine. The basic skincare routine includes cleansing, toning, and moisturizing, day and night, sometimes with different products for morning and evening depending on your skin’s needs. Two or three times a week, most people need an exfoliating treatment to remove dead skin cells and pollutants that can block pores and cause dull-looking skin or even breakouts. You’ll add other treatments to this basic routine for your skin’s individual needs. That might include intensive hydrating emollients for dry skin, anti-bacterial treatments for oily skin, or special treatments for breakouts, dark spots, or other skin issues. In most cases, the special treatments follow your evening cleansing, toning, and moisturizing routine so they can soak in overnight without affecting your makeup.

We all get busy, and it’s easy to head off to sleep without your nightly skincare routine, but it’s important to be consistent because you get the best results from good skincare over time.
