Get a Smooth Look for Spring with Body Waxing

Spring is here, and it’s time to put away the winter clothes and bring out lighter – and more revealing – clothes for the spring and summer. Unwanted hair can put a damper on your style, but constant shaving is a hassle. At The Glam Room, our expert estheticians can help you get rid of that unwanted hair easily with body waxing.

What is waxing?

Waxing uses natural, warm wax that is applied by a professional esthetician to areas that need hair removal. When the wax cools, it grasps hold of the hairs, so when the wax is removed, the hairs come with it.

Why is waxing better than shaving?

Lasts longer. Hairs are removed at the root with waxing, compared with a simple cut at the surface when shaving. That’s why hair grows back so much quicker with shaving – because the hair is still intact. With waxing, the root, or follicle, of each hair shaft has to rebuild itself before it can regrow hair. That takes several weeks.

Exfoliates. As the wax is removed, it acts as an exfoliating treatment to take off dead skin cells that can’t be removed by cleansing. This stimulates collagen production and encourages new cell regrowth, which keeps your skin healthy.

No cuts. Sharp razors cut skin easily, and that can be painful as well as unsightly. Waxing doesn’t use any sharp tools that can cut your skin.

Fewer ingrown hairs. When your legs are waxed, hairs grow back thinner, so they’re less likely to become ingrown hairs. When shaving and cutting off the hair at the skin’s surface, hairs may grow back incorrectly.

What does it feel like to have a waxing treatment?

Most people experience a little discomfort when waxing. If you have especially sensitive skin or it is your first time with waxing, talk to your waxing specialist at The Glam Room about options to minimize discomfort. In most cases, being nervous about your first waxing appointment is more intense than the minimal discomfort some people might feel during your waxing session. The good news is that the more you wax, the more comfortable the sessions will become, and all because hair grows back thinner and weaker in areas that are regularly waxed.

What do I need to do before my waxing treatment?

  • Let unwanted hair grow. Hairs need to be at least 1/4 inch long for the wax to grip properly.

  • Avoid lotions and creams. These could make your skin slippery and lessen the effectiveness of your treatment.

  • Address discomfort issues. If needed, practice the techniques discussed by your Glam Room waxing specialist for minimizing discomfort. This might include taking an over-the-counter pain reliever. Always check with your doctor before using any medication, even if they don’t require a prescription.

Does waxing require aftercare treatment?

  • After your waxing appointment, you may experience some temporary effects like redness. This should go away on its own in a couple of days. If it persists, call your Glam Room waxing specialist for advice.
  • Keep your treated skin clean.

  • Avoid touching the treated area for a couple of days.

  • Moisturize your skin with products recommended by your Glam Room waxing expert.

  • Check with your Glam Room waxing expert to find out what other activities you may need to avoid right after your waxing treatment.
