Clear the Air: Salt Rooms and Their Ability to Combat Hay Fever and Allergies

Seasonal allergies can make or break the spring and summer months. Likewise, respiratory illnesses can put a hindrance on the quality of your life overall. You’ve likely tried different medications to regulate these conditions, but what if there was an all-natural way to treat them? Using salt therapy is a method of treating both certain respiratory and skin conditions safely, without side effects.

How Does Salt Therapy Work?
Salt, being a safe and natural ingredient, can be used by anyone. The salt in the salt room is ground up finely and added into the room to create salty air. The salt-filled air holds anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties to help combat bacterial infections and assist with chronic conditions like asthma. When the salt enters your airways it gets to work to improve your lung function, soothe your sinuses, and give you a healthy, relaxing experience you can take benefit from.

The Various Health Benefits Of Salt
Salt is used to treat and heal a variety of things. Often you will find people gargling salt water to heal a sore throat while sick. Some say that it helps to strengthen the immune system too, preventing you from getting sick to begin with. Epsom salts are often used to help ease aching muscles, and there is anecdotal evidence that it helps ease skin conditions. And while research into the use of salt is a little limited, that doesn’t take away from the fact that many people around the world will swear by it. On top of that, some research has indicated that the humid, salty air from the seaside was able to directly impact COVID-19 prevention, by preventing the exhalation of infected respiratory droplets by almost 50%. Of course, this is with the consideration that the air by the sea is humid, however, you can’t deny the benefits of salty air to our health.

The History Of Salt Therapy
Salt therapy is also known by some as Halotherapy or, when practiced inside salt caves, speleotherapy. The story behind the discovery of salt’s respiratory and overall health benefits is quite an interesting one. The earliest known form of salt being used for health purposes is dated way back to the 12th century, where Polish people found benefit in bathing in mineral-rich waters. The practice is still used today to treat psoriasis eczema and more in medical spas. However if we look specifically for the use of dry salt therapy and its inhalation, we look back to 1843. It was discovered that salt miners, in comparison to other forms of mining, did not suffer from the respiratory illnesses the others did. Because of this, the healing properties of salt were able to be utilized in the form of salt caves, and now, salt rooms.

What Will Salt Therapy Treat?
Salt rooms are currently used to treat respiratory illnesses, primarily. This includes hay fever and allergies, asthma, bronchitis, COPD, cystic fibrosis, and chronic cough. The salt is able to help thin out mucus and fight bacteria, viruses, and microbes, thus relieving your symptoms and promoting your health and comfort.

It can also help with other things like ear infections and dermatitis. This is due to the variety of healing properties salt can have on the body- not to mention, an experience like this will have positive benefits on your mental health just due to the act of self-care and relaxation.

What Is The Glam Room Experience?
Our salt room experience will last for about 45 minutes, and you will be given shoe coverings to wear during the duration of your stay. You can bring a book, listen to music, or just relax in our salt room. You can determine when your session is over by the stop of the fan. You should make sure to use the restroom beforehand, and leave your electronics outside the room. We also ask that people avoid using strongly scented lotions, perfumes, or essential oils before coming in as these can change the effectiveness of the treatment. If you bring your electronics into the salt room, they can risk damage due to salt being corrosive to the protective surfaces that are on the circuits in your phone, laptop, etc. We want to make sure you get nothing but a positive experience.

How Often Should You Get Salt Therapy Treatments?
Many people will report seeing the effectiveness of the treatment within 1-3 sessions. It is recommended to come back about 15-20 times for lasting results and during allergy season. We recommend regular sessions every 2 or 3 weeks so that you can consistently get the benefits until you’re ready to cease treatment. If two or three days yield noticeable results, imagine how to clear your airways will be after 20!

Is There Anyone Who Shouldn’t Use A Salt Room?
There are a few things that may prevent someone from being able to use a salt room for their health. People with chronic, severe respiratory problems should avoid them unless a doctor has recommended use. Others with an active fever, severe hypertension, cancer, and heart problems are also recommended to avoid using salt rooms for their safety. We don’t want anyone to leave with a negative experience.
